What to look for
Look for what children choose on their own. A child returning to the same puzzle, a pair building side by side, a small group at the easel. Notice the shelves: low enough to reach, few items out, each basket holding one kind of thing. Photos catch the order of the day, and the order is what lets a child work without asking for help.
